The Rion EcoGrow is a new offering from Rion that is designed to meet the demand for a smaller greenhouse. They used to carry a greenhouse called the Rion Hobby Series or the Rion GH30 Series, but to the disappointment of many customers stopped selling it a couple years ago. Well luckily they are back with the EcoGrow, and it appears to be similar in size to their old Hobby Greenhouse. The new EcoGrow is sized at 6.5' x 8', 6.5 x 10.5', or 6.5' x 13', which puts is in the same size range as the STC Greenline, the Hobby Grower Enthusiast, the Juliana Basic, and numerous other small greenhouses. What sets the EcoGrow apart from all those models is that you get with it all the features of a larger Rion greenhouse, but in a smaller size. You can read our review of the Rion Hobby Gardener Series to get a better idea of what features we mean, but in a nutshell you get:
1. Expandability - The EcoGrow can be purchased in one size and you can add extensions to it later to lengthen the greenhouse.
2. High-strength Frame - The frame is constructed of high quality UV Protected PVC Resin, which is extremely strong, rigid, warp-proof, fade-proof, and lightweight. Most smaller size greenhouses come with aluminum frames which are not as strong and far more susceptible to bending and shifting.
3. Easy-Installation - Rion greenhouses are assembled using a no-tool process in which the pieces all snap together for very easy to follow installation. We have found the Rion line to have some of the best written instructions of all brands.
4. 6mm Twin-Wall Polycarbonate - The EcoGrow's are being shipped with the same thick, twin-wall polycarbonate side panels as the Green Giants, which makes for very good insulation in the winter and heat-resistance in the summer.
5. Spacious Design - Rion greenhouses make use of a barn-shape roof design to add quite a bit more headroom than the traditional A-frame design of most greenhouses. What this means is that you can work inside the greenhouse much more comfortably, with less stooping and bending over. Which is no small thing for those of us who spend hours in our greenhouses!
Conclusion: The EcoGrow is another fine greenhouse offering from Rion. We are pleased that they decided to offer a new, smaller model without throwing out all the features that we like on their larger models. We will have a longer review in a couple of months when we have had a chance to put the EcoGrow through it's paces, but until then know that Rion Greenhouses are the top sellers in North America for a reason, and by the looks of it the EcoGrow will be no different - just smaller.
